Introduction:
Zakat Foundation™ Philippines (ZFP) is a non-profit organization that focuses on providing humanitarian aid and development assistance to vulnerable communities in the Philippines. As an affiliate of Zakat Foundation of America (ZF), ZFP follows the Islamic principle of zakat, which involves giving a portion of wealth to those in need as a means of purifying one's wealth and helping those who are less fortunate. ZFP's mission is to alleviate poverty, provide sustainable development solutions, and empower marginalized communities in the Philippines. In this annual report for the year 2012, we will highlight ZFP's achievements, programs, and impact in making a difference in the lives of those in need.
Programs and Projects:
In 2012, ZFP implemented a wide range of programs and projects that aimed to address various aspects of poverty and improve the well-being of vulnerable communities. These programs focused on providing emergency relief, healthcare, education, livelihood support, and water and sanitation services.
Emergency Relief: ZFP responded to natural disasters such as Typhoon Sendong that hit Mindanao in December 2011, and Typhoon Pablo that struck Mindanao in December 2012. ZFP provided emergency relief including food, clean water, shelter materials, and medical assistance to affected communities. ZFP also distributed hygiene kits and conducted hygiene promotion activities to prevent the outbreak of diseases in disaster-affected areas.
Healthcare: ZFP's healthcare programs focused on improving access to healthcare services for vulnerable communities. ZFP provided medical and dental camps, health education, and awareness programs to underserved communities. In 2012, ZFP organized medical and dental camps in remote areas, reaching thousands of people who had limited access to healthcare. ZFP also supported medical facilities with essential equipment and supplies to improve the quality of healthcare services.
Education: ZFP's education programs aimed at improving access to education for disadvantaged children. ZFP provided scholarships, school supplies, and educational materials to students from low-income families. In 2012, ZFP awarded scholarships to hundreds of students, enabling them to pursue their education and achieve their dreams. ZFP also supported schools in underserved communities with infrastructure development and capacity-building initiatives.
Livelihood Support: ZFP's livelihood support programs aimed at empowering vulnerable communities by providing them with sustainable livelihood opportunities. ZFP provided vocational training, microcredit, and small-scale income-generation projects to help individuals and families become self-sufficient. In 2012, ZFP provided vocational training in various trades such as tailoring, carpentry, and masonry, enabling individuals to gain skills for employment or start their own businesses. ZFP also provided microcredit loans to individuals to start or expand their businesses, creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for them.
Water and Sanitation: ZFP's water and sanitation programs aimed at improving access to safe water and sanitation facilities in underserved communities. ZFP provided clean water supply systems, constructed wells, and built sanitation facilities in remote areas. In 2012, ZFP constructed water supply systems and wells in several communities, providing thousands of people with access to safe drinking water. ZFP also conducted hygiene promotion activities to raise awareness about the importance of proper sanitation and hygiene practices.
